When I had my first meeting with my supervisor at Advocado, she shared Advocado’s company core mission - to empower companies to make a dent in the universe.
To empower companies to make a dent in the universe. This really resonated with me as I began my journey as their first-ever intern; developing and executing a cohesive social media content strategy representing their brand, sending out email blasts to stay in touch with potential clients, creating a promotional video for an upcoming event, and ultimately, paving a new path in the history of their business.
As Advocado’s Social Media & Customer Experience Intern, my responsibilities centered around bridging the gap between Advocado and their target audience. Specifically, my day-to-day duties included joining the “Daily Huddle,” building, designing, and scheduling social media posts, coordinating email campaigns, rotating through various meetings to gain an understanding of all departments of the company, having regular check-ins with team members, and spearheading a 30-60 second commercial to be premiered at a conference in November.
Having the opportunity to intern at Advocado has taught me a lot beyond the classroom. First, once you have a taste of the independence, responsibility, and payoff of doing what you’re passionate about in the working world, it’s hard to go back to school. Second, when you find your ideal work environment, you will know it. Before my internship, I worried that in a future job setting, I would become overwhelmed and unhappy. Interning at Advocado changed my mind. It showed me what kind of environment I thrive in: a business with a communal commitment to a people-first, work-hard play-hard mentality. Now, I know what to look for when I am ready to commit to a full-time job.
It’s crazy to look back and see how much I learned from this experience in a short fourteen weeks, especially given the fact it’s been almost entirely virtual. Without a doubt, interning at Advocado gave me the chance to work and grow with some of the kindest and most driven people in the industry, and for that I am very thankful. Through my time at Advocado, the team definitely made a dent in my universe - and I hope I was able to make a dent in theirs.
